Family Summer Hot Spots in Greater Vancouver Pt.1

Sometimes you don’t have to go very far to find great spots to hang out with the kids.  This past summer we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the following spots in our city:

1. Crescent Beach (South Surrey)

This is our go-to spot for our family in the summer. It’s a definite escape from the city with its long stretch of water with a pedestrian path bordering beautiful & quaint beachfront homes. There’s an adorable town centre with great options for fish & chips, ice cream, and other summer treats. Our personal favorite spot there is Hooked Fish Bar.  Whether it’s for a few hours or a quick 1 hour trip, we always enjoy hanging out here as a family.

2. Steveston Village (Richmond)

A charming fishing village tucked away at the edge of Richmond.  You can immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of the pier and scout the daily catch of the local fishing boats.  My wife got a free sample of sea urchin from one of the fishing boats during our last visit.   Our sons devoured the fish and chips at Pajo’s.  Just a short walk from the main pier is Garry Point Park where you can watch ships go by, fly kites, or run around with your kids.

3. Capilano Suspension Bridge (North Vancouver)

Sometimes it takes out of town visitors to get you to rediscover famed city attractions like Capilano Suspension Bridge.  We took my wife’s cousins to this famed Vancouver tourist attraction.  We all got the thrills walking their Cliff Walk Attraction.

4. Tynehead Park (Surrey)

I have fond memories of walking my dog here as a teenager.  With its vast trail system, I think this park is such a hidden gem.  It also connects to the pedestrian bridge crossing highway 1 which gives you a unique point of view of the traffic in and out Surrey.
